ABOUT THE BURSAR

Founded in 1974 in Johannesburg, South Africa by trio Ian Kantor, Larry Nestadt and Errol Grolman, Investec are now based not only in South Africa; but also in Australia and the United Kingdom.

Investec are a global banking and asset management group, who provide a range of financial services and products to their clientele. Investec are listed on both the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) and the London Stock Exchange.

Investec are awarding bursaries to students whom they believe have strong potential to become a success in the financial sector – if you think you have what it takes to work for this global financial institution, then do apply.

This bursary applies to students wanting to study in the following fields:

  • Accounting
  • Business Economics
  • Business Science
  • Computer Science (BSc)
  • Economics
  • Engineering
  • Finance
  • Information Science (BIS-Bachelor)
  • Information Technology (BIT-Bachelors/ BSc)
  • Informatics
  • Investments
  • Law
  • Science and Mathematics

* Please note that Investec will only cover a R80 000 of the tuition fees (per annum) for students intending to study full time.

The chosen bursary candidate will also receive mentorship, where they will be mentored by Investec employees to guide them in their studies. The bursary holder will also be able to attend work readiness programme i.e. boot camp at Investec to help the applicant gain the skills needed to find a job in the field – this programme will take place in the third year of study.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must meet the following minimal criteria before applying:

  • Only applicants who can show financial need and strong academic performance/ potential will be considered.
  • You must be a South African citizen.
  • Grade 12/ Matric students must meet the following criteria:
    • English and Mathematics (higher grade): minimum mark of 60%
    • All other subjects: minimum pass mark of 50%
  • Students who matriculated before 2008 must meet the following criteria:
  • English and Mathematics (higher grade): minimum mark of 60%

HOW TO APPLY

Eligible students must apply online at http://www.studietrust.co.za (between 1 May and 30 September annually).

You will be required to submit the following supporting documentation:
1. ID document (certified copy),
2. Grade 11 results (certified copy),
3. Current year of study’s June results (certified copy),
4. Matric certificate for applicants that have completed Grade 12 (certified copy),
5. Tertiary students must submit their June results, or if no examinations were written a progress report of all subjects (certified copy),
6. Proof of household income: if your parent(s)/ guardian(s) are employed, their recent payslips (certified copy),
7. Proof of household income: if your parent(s)/ guardian(s) are self-employed, their recent financial statements showing monthly income (certified copy),
8. Proof of household income: if your parent(s)/ guardian(s) are unemployed, a sworn affidavits (certified copy),
9. If your parent(s)/ guardian(s) are deceased, their death certificates (certified copy),
10. If your parent(s)/ guardian(s) are divorced, their divorce certificate (certified copy),
11. Sworn statement from one parent if your parents are separated (certified copy).
