2018 ONLINE APPLICATION – Gauteng Education

The MEC for Education in Gauteng officially launched the 2018 Online Application at a media conference in Johannesburg and has once again requested parents to apply on time and within the specified period.These applications will start on the 02 May 2017 from 08:30 and close at midnight on 12 June 2017.
Improvement on the system from last year includes:
·         A once off application process with three steps;
·         The website is interactive and user friendly;
·         There are language options and parents will apply in the language of their choice;
·         The system will recognize a school as an address of residence living in an informal area
·         The system will handle bigger traffic than last year
Parents have been advised to apply to the nearest school for other grades to avoid unnecessary traffic on the system… They can use home or work address for schools within 5km radius or apply to the school where there is a sibling; however the sibling should not be in grade 7 or 12 in the year of application. A parent who wishes to apply for Grade 8 at a School of Specialization can do so online and should note that there are additional aptitude test requirements.
.NB: Applications to schools accommodating Learners with Special Education Needs (LSEN) will not be processed online. Parents are advised to visit the nearest district to apply for a child with special education needs.
“GDE officials will be deployed at 65 Admission Centres to capture the applications for such parents at the Admission Operations Centre. Parents can also go to the community libraries or Thusanong Centre to be assisted.” says Lesufi
.The placement phase will start from 24 July 2017 to 29 September 2017. Parents will receive SMS notifications or a letter from the school informing them that their application has been successful or otherwise. Those given offers of placement have seven (7) working days to accept or reject the offer.
As of 2 May, our contact centre will extend operating hours from 08:00 – 18:00 and until 14:00 on Saturday in order to assist parents as required.
A video tutorial picture step-by-step guide and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for immediate guidance and reference will be available on the website www.education.gpg.gov.za and www.gdeadmissions.gov.za
