  • Recommend increase to maximise sales and decrease of limits to minimise the risk of bad debt
  • Establish a relationship of respect and mutual trust with the customer which is suitable for that specific type of customer
  • Ensure claims are cleared within time limit set by the policy
  • Ensure that debts are collected and banked in time
  • Maintain an open item debtors sub ledger
  • Generate sub ledger journal vouchers
  • Sending customers system generated statements as well as special statements
  • Calling client for over-due invoices
  • Requesting accounts to go on hold when overdue
  • Investigating claims and preparing of credit notes for processing
  • Weekly progress reports on over-due invoices and outstanding claims
  • Understanding Trade Agreements



  • Matric
  • Credit Management 4


  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in reconciling customer accounts using the open item method of managing debtor accounts
  • Experience in balance brought forward
  • Minimum 5 years’ credit control experience in a manufacturing environment with exposure to the Sales Orders and the Logistics Departments with FMCG customers
  • Must have worked with the Massmart group

  • Microsoft Office
  • Ability to communicate with both internal and external contacts
  • Valid Driver’s Licence
  • A good understanding of the financial impact of transactions on the business and its customers
  • Understanding the method of payment when the customer uses a remittance advice starting with the creditor’s statement balance
  • The ability to process large volumes of transactions accurately within the set time limits
