ABOUT THE BURSAR

ArcelorMittal South Africa was established in 1928 under the name “Iscor” in Pretoria, South Africa. Upon establishment, the companies aim was to produce iron and steel.

It was only in 2006 that ArcelorMittal was formed via a merger between Mittal Steel and Arcelor. Today, ArcelorMittal is the biggest steel company in the world.

ABOUT THE BURSARY

ArcelorMittal are awarding bursaries to students who intend on studying full-time at a university approved by ArcelorMittal South Africa. The bursary award will cover the following expenses: tuition expenses, meals and accommodation, personal computer, scientific calculator and a textbook allowance.

The selected applicant must be studying within one of the following fields:

  • Chemical Engineering,
  • Electrical Engineering,
  • Mechanical Engineering,
  • Metallurgical Engineering,
  • Information Technology.

On completion of their studies, students will be appointed into the Candidate Engineer Programme, this is an extra 24 month training programme in order for students to register as professional engineers after training.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must meet the following criteria before applying:

  • Current matric/ grade 12 students: obtained a minimum average of 70% in grade 11 for Physical Science and Mathematics & a minimum aggregate of 60% for matric.
  • Current BEng students: studying in one of the aforementioned fields of study.

Short listed applicants will undergo an interview process during the April school holidays.
