Does medical aid cover you immediately?
According to the Medical Schemes Act, medical aid schemes are entitled to impose a 3 months general waiting period and/or a 12-month condition-specific waiting period(s) for any pre-existing medical condition(s). The Act makes specific provisions for the imposition of waiting periods (and late joiner penalties).
What is the age limit for medical aid?
In fact, this applies to any child under the age of 18 years old. A medical scheme requires that the main member be at least 18 years or older and then the dependents on the medical aid can join irrespective of their age. A child under 18 years cannot be the main member or only member of medical aid.
Can I use my medical aid for someone else?
You may only sign on behalf of yourself or your dependents under the age of 18 years or authorized dependents. For patients on medical scheme plans and over the age of 18 years and registered as dependants on a medical scheme plan, an individual signature is required as a binding contract with this practice.
