Call for Applications for MQA Discretionary Grants: 2017 – 2018

The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) is a Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) for the mining and minerals sector in terms of the Skills Development Act of 1998. The MQA invites employers in the sector to apply for the following 01 April 2017 to 31 March 2018 Discretionary Grants allocations (first window):

1. Work Experience (Project A003)

The MQA will enter into agreements with participating employers to support the placement of 600 learners for work experience in the mining and minerals sector.

2. Internship (Project A006)

The MQA will enter into agreements with participating employers to support 500 unemployed graduates that have studied mining related qualifications, to gain work exposure. Application form

3. Historically Disadvantaged South Africans (HDSA) Candidacy Programme (Project A041)

The MQA will enter into agreements with participating employers to support 100 candidates in their development to attain the Government Certificate of Competence (GCC), and other certificates of competence that are recognised in the mining and minerals sector. Application form

4. Workplace Coach Development (Project A020)

The MQA will partner with levy paying employers to support 50 coaches to assist learners with work integrated learning. Application form

5. Management Development (Project A022)

The MQA will support 250 employees to enter management development programmes. Application form

6. TVET College Support – Lecturer Support (Project A015)

The MQA will support 30 lecturers from Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges for placement / training with employers in the mining and minerals sector. Application form

7. TVET College Support – Learner Support (Project A015)

The MQA will support 250 National Certificate Vocational (NCV) graduates from TVET Colleges for placement / training with employers. Application form

8. Non-Artisan Learnerships (Project A007)

The MQA will support the registration of 3 100 learners based on the “first come first serve” strategy. Note: this excludes learners enrolled for the Diamond Processing, Jewellery Manufacturing and Learners with Disabilities learning programmes. Application form

9. Non-Artisan Learnerships – Beneficiation (Project A007)

The MQA will support the registration of 400 learners based on an application and allocation process. Application form

10. Non-Artisan Learnerships – People with Disabilities (Project A007)

The MQA will support the registration of 400 learners based on an application and allocation process. Application form

11. Non-Artisan Learnerships for Recognition of Prior Learning (Project A007)

The MQA will support the process to conduct Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for 200 learners on non-artisan learnership programmes. Application form

12. Adult Education and Training (Project A009)

The MQA will support the registration of 4 700 employed and unemployed learners, and the completion of 2 500 employed learners (80%) and unemployed learners (20%) on Adult Education and Training programmes (pre-AET, AET 1-4, GETC, NOC, N1, N2 and N3). Application form

13. Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Representatives Development (Project A010)

The MQA will support the registration of 6 200 employees on the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) training programme. Application form

14. Artisan Aides / RPL Employed (Project A014)

The MQA will provide support for 400 learners to complete the artisan aides learning programmes. Application form

15. Artisan Goldsmith (Project A013)

The MQA will provide support for the registration of learners on the artisan (goldsmith) programmes. Application form

16. Foundational Learning Competency (Project A017)

The MQA will support the registration of 280 learners on the Foundational Learning Competency (FLC) learning programme. Application form

Closing date

All application forms must be submitted before midnight (24H00) on Sunday, 31 January 2017. Late applications will not be considered.
