CALL FOR ARTISTS: SKETCHBOOK VISUAL ART PROJECT – PORT ELIZABETH

Young local visual artists working in all mediums are hereby invited to participate in the Sketchbook Visual Art Project, an annual professional developmental programme that seeks to develop the visual arts sector in the Metro by offering young visual artists an opportunity to develop their skills. The programme will culminate in a major exhibition in the city in July 2017.

Call for artists: Sketchbook Visual Art Project - Port Elizabeth

This year’s programme will primarily focus on the four elements of drawing. To be selected for the programme, young artists are encouraged to bring their sketches and/or examples of their work to the Athenaeum, no 7 Athol Fugard Terrace, Central, Port Elizabeth, on 10 June 2017 from 09:30 – 14h30.

Introduction
The sketch book project is a youth focused visual art initiative created to develop a commitment to visual art and the professional development of the visual art sector in the NMB. The project seeks to strengthen and maintain a visual database in the metro by offering young visual artists living and practising in the NMB an opportunity to develop their skills.

The vision of the project is to:

  • Create an annual art residence programme for young visual artist living and practising in the NMB

The objective of the project is to:

  • unearth, nurture and develop visual artist in the NMB
  • to grow visual artists living and practising in the NMB into strong and sustainable forest so as to continue [as Sector] to play a positive role in the development of our Metro and the province at large

Selected Visual Artist

  • Selected visual artist will be given funding for materials and transport fee for the duration of the project

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Attend a month long drawing programme.
  • Attend 2 workshops and outings.
  • Attend weekly walkabouts to present on progress and challenges.
  • Submit their sketchbook, biography and artists statement for the exhibition.
  • Assist with hanging of the artworks and attend the opening of the exhibition.
