Details of South African Air Force Corporate Identity

Corporate Identity

The Corporate Identity of an organisation is determined by its visual elements. These elements include an organisations emblem, its typeface and the general image portrayed by that organisation. The Corporate Identity of the South African Air Force is similarly influenced by these factors, as well as its uniforms and rank insignia. The Vision, Mission and Motto of the Air Force forms an integral part of its identity.

The Golden Eagle with the laurel wreath in its claws is the official emblem of the South African Air Force. The registered SAAF Golden Eagle is to be used on all occasions. It represents the African Fish Eagle and the motto on the wreath ” Per Aspera Ad Astra” means:

On the 29th of April 2003 the South African Air Force, along with the whole South African Defence community took possession of its new Roundel, this replaces the old five point castle that served the Air Force well in various guises through the past fifty odd years. The roundel is displayed on Major equipment (Aircraft) and certain operational deployable equipment. It is not to be displayed on support equipment and where the situation demands a low visibility version may be used.
