A rifle is a long-barreled firearm designed for accurate shooting, with a barrel that has a helical pattern of grooves cut into the bore wall.
How good is the R5 rifle?
The capabilities of the R5 rifle are well documented. It fires a 5.56mm round, with a full metal jacket, that dispenses so much kinetic energy at close range, ie distances less than 100m, that the bullet fragments on penetration of human tissue, causing a massive wound cavity.
What rifle SAPS use?
The Vektor R4 is a 5.56×45mm assault rifle designed in 1979 based on the IMI Galil rifle. It entered service as the standard service rifle of the South African Defence Force (SADF) in 1980. The R4 replaced the R1, a variant of the 7.62×51mm FN FAL.
