About Us

Introduction

The International School of South Africa is an independent junior and senior boarding school situated on a superbly landscaped estate of 54 hectares on the outskirts of Mafikeng. It is owned and administered by a board of governors and it is a member of the Independent Schools Association of South Africa (ISASA) as well as the European Council of International Schools (ECIS).

The School is co-educational, and ranges from primary to post-matriculation (A-level).The Primary (360 students) and Senior (450 pupils) schools are integrated on the same site.In both schools, small classes enable teachers to give students personal and detailed attention.

With students from 18 different countries, the school provides an excellent opportunity for exchanging ideas, sharing cultures and developing international relations. Our students are drawn from South Africa itself, other African countries , the United Kingdom, Europe, the Indian sub-continent and the Far East.

Schools Primary and Secondary:

Primary School » Introduction

ISSA Primary is more than a school – it’s an experience

We offer:

  • An important balance between academic, cultural, physical and spiritual development
  • Small classes
  • Enthusiastic, qualified and experienced staff
  • High academic standards and a quality education

What we hope to offer, too, is a style;

  • not easy to define, but there nonetheless
  • not particularly bookish, but academically vigorous, thoughtful and intelligent
  • competitive certainly, as befits a school such as ISSA, but relaxed and good-humoured
  • independent of spirit
  • hardly arty, but capable of surprising with the passion of its music, art and drama
  • strongly collegiate, with an easy and respectful relationship between teacher and child, between seniors and juniors, and between parents, staff and management
  • For all their diversity subsequent to leaving school, and for all their individuality and independence, ISSA boys and girls tend to recognize each other as having been shaped by the same institution. We at ISSA shall continue to be guided by our very simple philosophy: If it’s important to the child,  it’s important to us.
