ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP PROVIDER

The Irish Aid Kader Asmal Scholarship was created in the honour of late Professor Kader Asmal, who taught law and specialised in labour; human rights and international law at the Trinity College Dublin for 27 years. Professor Asmal also co-founded the Irish Anti-Apartheid Movement and was part of the ANC team who negotiated the transition to democracy.

ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP

The Kader Asmal Fellowship Programme will be awarding scholarships for Postgraduate students to study in Ireland.

Scholarships will be awarded to students within the following fields of study:

  • Business Management:
    • Accounting
    • Economics
    • Human Resource Management
    • Management and Business
  • Agriculture, Food Science and Nutrition:
    • Agriculture
    • Climate Change
    • Rural Development
    • Sustainability
  • Public Administration:
    • Accounting
    • Economics
    • Health Economics
    • Health Engineering
    • Human Resource Management
    • Public Health

The scholarship will cover the following expenses: university application fees, tuition fees, examination fees, accommodation, student visitor visa, return flight (economy class) to Ireland and back home, study allowance, book allowance, monthly living allowance and a settling in allowance.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:

  • South African citizen OR Zimbabwean citizen with a South African Permanent Residence Permit
  • In possession of a Bachelors degree qualification with a minimum average of 65%
  • Intend on study full-time towards a postgraduate qualification in one of the aforementioned fields of study
  • Not completed a Masters degree qualification
  • Intend on returning to South Africa after completion of studies
