MQA Bursary: Better Start For Future

MQA (Mining Qualifications Authority) gladly presents MQA bursary for all talented and high achiever South African students. The aim of the bursary scheme is to increase the interest of students taking studies related to and making careers in the mining and minerals sector. Africa is rich in natural resources and minerals and still need many skillful and trained employees to explore, process and make good use of it. Will you be the one to join MQA bursary?

About MQA

MQA Bursary

MQA (Mining Qualifications Authority) is run by South African government and have duties to support skills development for sector transformation, to empower information management, to support objective decision-making,  to do the monitoring, evalution and implementation and to ensure efficient and transparent corporate givernment system within framework.

Available Fields of Study

MQA bursary is open to support the following mining core disciplines and those related to mineral industry:

  • Mine Survey
  • Mining Engineering
  • Metallurgical Engineering (Extractive only)
  • Environmental Health and Management
  • Geology
  • Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current only)
  • Chemical Engineering (Mineral Processing)
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Electro-mechanical Engineering
  • Analytical Chemistry
  • Jewellery Design and Manufacturing

The Criterion For Bursary

MQA bursary will requires applicants to adhere several criterion for applying the bursary and those requirements are:

  • South African citizen
  • Female applicants and applicants with disability will be given priorities
  • Successful bursars will be obliged to work within the South African mining and minerals sector year-to-year they are in sponsorship
  • Bursary will be considered based on academic records
  • Applicants must be in need of financial support
  • Continuation of bursary based on students’ academic progress in the university

MQA bursary will cover registration and tuition fees, residence fees or out of residence living costs, books, stationery and toolkit allowance given every semester.

To apply for MQA bursary, applicants should fill in the application form that can be retrieved here:

The complete application form must be attached with these documentations:

  • South African ID copy
  • Certified copy of latest academic results with letterhead from university
  • Paresnts’/guardian’s latest payslip
  • Certificate of death if parents deceased
  • Certified copy of Senior (Grade 12) Certificate
  • Proof of registration or acceptance letter from university
  • Copy of latest residence proof
  • An affidavit if needed
  • Certified copy of parents’/guardian’s/spouse ID
