National Diploma: Information Technology: Support Services at Tshwane University of Technology

The IIE Higher Certificate in IT in Support Services will equip the student with the skills to provide technical assistance and computer-related support in the business environment. Subjects focus on end-user computing, helpdesk support, basic web development, as well as business practice and communication.

Admission requirement(s) and Selection criteria:

For Applicants who obtained a Senior Certificate

Admission requirement(s):

A Senior Certificate or an equivalent qualification with a pass in English, and at least 50% at Higher Grade or at least 60% at Standard Grade for Mathematics and Physical Science.

Applicants with a Senior Certificate or an equivalent qualification with a pass in English and at least 40% at Higher Grade or at least 50% at Standard Grade for Mathematics and Physical Science (or any relevant subject considered by the Department/Faculty) and a pass in English will be considered for admission to the extended programme only.

Recommended subject(s):

Computer Studies.

Assessment Procedures:

No further selection will be done. Applicants will be considered for admission to either the National Diploma or the extended programme.

Applicants who have been accepted, but whose final Grade 12 results are lower than what is prescribed in the admission requirements, will be moved to the extended programme (provided that they meet the minimum requirements of the programme).

• For Applicants who obtained a National Senior Certificate

Admission requirement(s):

A National Senior Certificate with a bachelor’s degree or a diploma endorsement, or an equivalent qualification, with an achievement level of at least 4 for English (home language or first additional language) and 4 for Mathematics and 4 for Physical Sciences or an equivalent relevant subject considered by the Department/Faculty.

Applicants with a National Senior Certificate with a bachelor’s degree or diploma endorsement, or an equivalent qualification with at least 4 for English (first additional language) or at least 3 for English (home language) and 3 for Mathematics and 3 for Physical Sciences or an equivalent relevant subject considered by the Department/Faculty will be considered for admission to the extended programme only.

Selection criteria:

To be considered for this qualification, applicants must have an Admission Point Score (APS)
of at least 24.

Applicants with an APS of at least 20 will be considered for the extended programme.

Assessment Procedures:

No further selection will be done. Applicants will be considered for admission to either the National Diploma or the extended programme.

Applicants who have been accepted, but whose final Grade 12 results are lower than what is prescribed in the admission requirements, will be moved to the extended programme (provided that they meet the minimum requirements of the programme).

• Applicants who obtained a Qualified from Technical Education and Vocational and Training Colleges (TVET)

Applicants with a National Certificate (Vocational) at NQF Level 4:

Admission requirement(s):

A National Certificate (Vocational) at NQF level 4 with bachelor’s degree or diploma endorsement issued by the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training (Umalusi), with at least 50% (APS of 4) for English and 60% (APS of 5) for Mathematics and at least 60% (APS of 5) for Physical Sciences/Applied Engineering
Technology/Materials and any two other vocational subjects.

Applicants with at least 50% (APS of 4) for English and 50% (APS of 4) for Mathematics (or 60% (APS of 5) for Mathematical Literacy) and 60% (APS of 5) for Mathematics and at least 60% (APS of 5) for Physical Sciences/Applied Engineering Technology/Materials and any two other vocational subjects will be considered for admission to the extended programme only.

Selection criteria:

To be considered for this qualification, applicants must have an Admission Point Score (APS) of at least 23.

Applicants with a National N Certificate as published in Nated 191: N3 at (NQF level 4):

A National Senior Certificate or a Certificate as published in Nated 191: N3 (NQF level 4)

issued by the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training (Umalusi) with at least 50% (APS of 4) for English and 50% (APS of 4) for Mathematics.

Minimum duration:

Three years.
