ABOUT THE BURSAR

The South African National Zakáh Fund (SANZAF) is a educational organisation whose aim it is to help needy families in the community. SANZAF are a faith-based organisation that collect and distribute Zakáh and Sadaqát to help the muslim community.

ABOUT THE BURSARY

The SANZAF Zakah Bursary is a grant and is aimed at students who find themselves in financial need, unable to pay for their tertiary studies.
Candidates will go through the following steps before being awarded the bursary:
1. Candidates will be reviewed and shortlisted by the Bursary Committee.
2. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview – candidates will be notified of the venue, date and time of their interview via email by 6 November at the latest.
3. Interviews will either take place on 19 or 26 November.
4. Supporting documentation must be submitted by 16 January at the latest.
5. Candidates will be notified of the outcome of the bursary by 27 February at the latest.
6. Final applicants will receive a Confirmation of Pledge letter, indicating the due date of the payment – this will be sent after 29 February.
7. Bursary payment will be made directly to the tertiary institution.
Please note that candidates will be required to settle their registration fees independently.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:

    • South African citizen or foreign national with a study permit
    • Western Cape resident
    • Proven financial need
    • Previously disadvantaged
      • Fall into one of these three categories:
        • Completed Matric and not studied at tertiary level
        • Currently studying at a tertiary institution and are were sponsored by a family member or yourself last year
        • Currently studying at a tertiary institution and were sponsored by SANZAF last year

      • Testimonial
      • Proof of income: parents/ guardians/ spouse latest payslips OR affidavit if unemployed OR death certificate if deceased
