Job Title: Head of Partnership Development
Job Location: KwaZulu-Natal
Thanda is currently seeking a Head of Partnership Development, who will be based in our Administrative office in Hibberdene, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. There is however potential for 2/3 days per week to be worked remotely.

The ideal candidate for this job will be someone who has experience developing and implementing strategic plans for attracting partners (individuals, corporates, and foundations) and who can create new and innovative ways to engage with each of our partners.  This role requires high levels of responsibility, energy, and enthusiasm.

Purpose:

The Head of Partnership Development is a key leadership team member and an active participant in making decisions that help drive strategy and innovation at Thanda. The Head of Partnership Development is responsible for developing comprehensive fundraising strategies focused on identifying, cultivating and leveraging financial and in-kind support to increase Thanda’s visibility, impact and financial resources. While a background in fundraising may be useful for this role, it is not essential. We are looking for someone has innovative ideas, is a critical thinker, and is exciting about creating new ways to engage with our funders and partners.

The position will provide leadership and management of a team of at least two other employees in addition to various interns and volunteers. This team focuses on fundraising, communications, marketing, volunteer engagement, and funding campaigns. The Head of Partnership Development works together with his/her team to implement fundraising and partnership strategies and collaborates with a grant-writing consultant. The Head of Partnership Development is directly responsible for soliciting/securing major gifts meeting an annual fundraising goal of approximately R9M.

As a member of the senior leadership team, the Head of Partnership Development participates in strategic planning and budgeting initiatives. He/she works within the guidelines, policies and mission of the organisation and is accountable and responsible for assigned projects, as well as the overall management of his/her team.

The ideal candidate for the Head of Partnership Development position is both a leader and team-player who is able to take responsibility for tasks and deliverables and solve problems as they arise. He/she is an excellent manager. He/she is able to cultivate and maintain excellent relationships with new and existing funders and partners. He/she is detailed oriented, results-driven, adaptable, change resilient, and a continuous learner. He/she is dedicated to Thanda’s overall mission and values.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing a comprehensive fundraising & partnership strategy each year
  • Manage the implementation and evaluation of all Thanda’s fundraising activities
  • Cultivate and enrich relationships with partners
  • Assist with administrative and other tasks as delegated by the Executive Director.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Excellent manager and team-player with at least 1 year of proven management experience
  • Significant fundraising / entrepreneurial / sales / business skills and experience
  • Experience in strategic planning
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Flexible and adaptable personality
  • Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple tasks on tight timelines
  • Relationship-orientated – highly skilled in developing and sustaining positive relationships with donors
  • Ability to conduct prospect research
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Results-oriented with a friendly, collaborative approach and a team-oriented style
  • Highly proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • High levels of responsibility, energy, and enthusiasm
  • At least 3 years professional work experience
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends, as needed
  • Willingness to travel, if necessary
  • Valid Driver’s Licence
  • Advanced knowledge of CRM databases (preferred)

Remuneration: R288 000 – R312 000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience
