The Solidarity Campaign is a social movement that aims to raise awareness, advocate, and lobby for the liberation of the colonised and oppressed nations and groups. As well to promote the right to liberation of the oppressed and colonised peoples of the world.

Job Title: Advocacy and Campaigns Coordinator

Job Location: Cape Town

The purpose of the position is to provide direction, expertise, and leadership in the successful management of Solidarity Campaign’s advocacy and campaigning activities, along with generating and managing geopolitical news and information for use in campaigns. The person will take responsibility for directing the social movement in terms of new and innovative methods of ensuring advocacy for the oppressed and colonised on a periodic and / or ongoing campaigning activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the planning, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of a range of advocacy and campaigning programmes
  • Manage the design publicity, educational and awareness materials and strategically utilising these to advocate for the rights of oppressed and colonised groups and nations of the world and raise awareness about the oppressed and colonised peoples at a local, national and international level
  • Utilise in-depth knowledge on colonisation and oppression, advocacy and human rights to assist in developing innovative, fit-for-purpose strategies, interventions and campaigns to help raise awareness about gross human rights violations and human rights
  • Help develop and manage advocacy projects and campaigns related to oppressed and colonized groups of the world
  • Support and help coordinate the work of the Solidarity Campaign and mobilise people into actively becoming involved in provincial, national and international advocacy activities
  • Work with all stakeholders to actively advocate and campaign for the rights to self-determination for the oppressed and colonised groups of the world.
  • Contribute to Solidarity Campaign’s social media and website platforms

Requirements:

  • Energetic, outgoing and vibrant person to drive advocacy and campaigning in an enthusiastic and innovative way
  • Fulfil an outward-facing role in the organisation and would thus be required to be professional, presentable, flexible and an outstanding and reliable ambassador for Solidarity Campaign
  • Domestic and international traveling might be required, so a willingness and ability to travel at is essential
  • Relevant qualifications
  • Public speaking, presentation, facilitation and event management skills
  • Experience in advocacy and campaign development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation is beneficial
  • Experience of dealing with all forms of media
  • Experience conceptualising large scale campaigns
  • Literacy and written and admin skills are essential
  • Communication skills and the ability to liaise with and relate to a wide range of audiences
  • Critical thinker and able to use initiative and work autonomously
  • Organised, adaptable, enthusiastic and results driven, with a passion to make a difference
  • Project management skills
  • Valid driver’s license will be an added benefit
  • Must have a 360° understanding of international politics and the instruments that govern the international space, and how to strategically empower and mobilise for these individuals at a local, national and international level through innovative advocacy campaigns
