The importance of good research ethics is growing both locally and internationally to promote the application of ethical standards to human beings, animals and the environment.
Research at TUT is conducted and governed within a framework of policies and guidelines that promote impeccable ethical standards. The main reason for having a Research Ethics Committee is to protect research participants in respect of safety (health and life), informed consent, anonymity, justice, freedom to participate, the minimising of risks, and applicable compensations.
TUT’s Research Ethics Committee comprises 15 members, namely representatives of the seven faculties, the community, and Legal Services. The Committee usually meets about once an academic month to review the ethics clearance of research proposals after they had been approved by the faculty research and innovation committees (FRICs).
