What is Educational Studies

Educational Studies emerged due to final configuration of Faculties in 2007.  The department offers Initial Professional Education and Training (IPET) such as the Bachelor of Education specialisations (B. Ed specialisations) and Continuing Professional Training and Development (CPTD) specialisations such as the Bachelor of Education (B. Ed honours), Advance Certificate in Education specialisations (ACE: specialisations) Masters in Education (M. Ed) and Doctoral in Education (D. Ed (GET Intermediate and Senior phases) include subjects specialisations such as Mathematics, Technology in Education and Entrepreneurship.  A new qualification, B.Ed. (GET: Foundation Phase) has been introduced and forms part of the European Union nationally with other Higher Education Institutions offering teacher education.  This qualification has programmes in the fields of numeracy, literacy and life orientations.  An Advance Diploma in Education (formerly known as the Postgraduate Certificate in Education; PGCE: FET), a blocked based qualification, completed over two years is a new specialisation.  It is designed for candidates who have already completed an initial degree in any field other education, who wants to become qualified teachers in schools.
