| The annual IT Expo renders an opportunity for third year ICT students at the eMalahleni campus of the Tshwane University of Technology to showcase their final-year projects, demonstrating their abilities to develop innovative programming solutions for industry. This event is attended by TUT students, learners from local high schools and members of industry. Short message from Academic ManagerThe ICT Section at the eMalahleni Campus is committed to offering a range of programmes that will produce creative, adaptable, well-trained and well-rounded graduates who will be fully equipped to participate in the key role that science and technology play in the changing environment in South Africa. Through consultation with industries in the eMalahleni area, programmes most suitable to the needs of local industries are selected for offering at the eMalahleni campus. What we do? The EUC Department doesn’t offer any programs, but only render a service to students from all the faculties within TUT. Currently the department is offering service ‘subjects’ to almost 6000 students per semester at 9 campuses. The Department has no specialization areas, but its strategy of positioning itself as the preferred IT partner (internal and external) in offering End User solutions (skills and knowledge) to its current and prospective learners, represents the core of its strategic thrust. The purpose of the courses and modules offered is to train employees for a skill(s) needed in their specialized fields of study and related jobs in industry. To accomplish this basic purpose, and to ensure the department’s strength, we engage in other training-related activities, e.g. Recognition of Prior Learning, International Certification and customized courseware to enhance skills proficiency. Career OpportunitiesStudents who have successfully completed the National Diploma in Information Technology: Software Development will have the skills to develop and maintain IT applications on various platforms, as well as to apply themselves as IT systems analysts and designers. Career opportunities include programmer, analyst programmer, systems developer, systems tester, systems analyst and systems designer.
