2019 University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) Online Registration

To all Returning Students – Registration 2018

Registration is done via the self help/online system from 8 January until 2 March 2018. The system is accessible in the University Computer LANs and off-campus. You don’t have to stand in long queues

If you choose to register on campus during the main registration period (29 January to 2 February), or need academic advice/counselling, check your allocated registration time in the information package. Please note that the schedule according to allocated times will be strictly adhered to.  Refer to the relevant college landing page for specific detailed information by visiting www.ukzn.ac.za .

  1. PAYMENTS
  2. The University is no longer accepting large cash payments on any of the campuses. The maximum amount of cash accepted at the cashiers is R500.00. Be safe, don’t travel with cash.
  3. Please pay online or at a bank. Ideally, this should be done at least three days before registration.
  4. You can use your credit or debit card to pay your fees via Click-to-Pay at www.ukzn.ac.za. Clearance will be on the same day.
  5. Beat the queue by paying at the bank (and sending us proof by 4pm) and then register online the next day.
  6. Please note that it takes 2-3 days to clear EFT and payment made at another bank. However, you can email your proof of payment by 4pm to one of the emails below for clearance overnight: Medschfees@ukzn.ac.za, or Westvillefees@ukzn.ac.za  Howardfees@ukzn.ac.za  or Edgewoodfees@ukzn.ac.za  or Pmbfees@ukzn.ac.za
  7. Check your outstanding fee balance by phoning 031 260 3699 or go to www.ukzn.ac.za.

  9. STUDENT CARDS AND PARKING PERMITS

Student cards will automatically be activated overnight once you have registered. You can use your 2017 student card until 2 March 2018 but it must be updated thereafter at the ID card office located on your campus. Student cards and parking permits will only be required for access (apart for residence students) from 3 March 2018.

  1. PARENTS’ DAY AND ORIENTATION OF STUDENTS

There will be a Parents’ Day on 27 January and orientation of students will take place from  29 January to 2 February 2018. During this time you will be informed about the University, it’s structures, important services available to you as a student and how to access those services.   1. REGISTRATION
  2. Registration is done online and will take place from 8 January to 2 February. You will be given more information about registration during orientation time.
  3. Please check the information in your Application Acceptance Pack for your registration times, venues and the specific campus.
  4. If you know the modules you would like to register for, you can use self-help/online registration to capture your modules directly onto the system. However, we recommend that you come to orientation for advice and help.

  1. Use of laptops

The University has adopted an on-line learning management system and students must have laptops. Fortunately UKZN has negotiated affordable deals on laptops for students through the Student Technology Programme (STP). For more information consult http://www.stp.ac.zaFunding will be provided for new students who are funded by NSFAS to purchase a laptop.

STUDENT CARDS AND PARKING PERMITS: PROCESS FOR RETURNING STUDENTS

  • Student cards will automatically be activated overnight once you have registered.
  • After you have registered you must proceed to the ID Card office located on your campus for your card to be embossed.
  • Apply for Parking permits at http://rms.ukzn.ac.za/Traffic/ParkingPermit_Student.
  • Student cards and parking permits will only be required for access (apart from residence students) from 2 March 2015. You can use your old one until then.

  1. On-time applications

A total of 95,929  undergraduate applications were received via the Central Applications Office by the 30 of November 2018 for approximately 8,770 first year places.

  1. Offers to applicants

By the end of November 4,855  provisional offers were made to applicants. Colleges will consider the rest of the applications from the 2nd of January 2018 after the release of embargoed NSC Grade 12 results to UKZN. On the 5th of January, after the official release of results to high schools, applicants will be informed about the outcome of their applications to UKZN via sms.

  1. Changes of mind in the ‘Clearing Houses’

It is expected that by the 8th of January, Colleges will have dealt with most of the applications received on-time. Thereafter changes-of-mind will be accepted from the 10thth of January for qualifications where spaces are available. All visitors will be directed to the clearing houses on the PMB, Westville and Howard Colleges campuses as indicated in the table below.

  1. UKZN Call Centre

In addition to the functions taking place in the clearing houses, a dedicated university-wide call centre will be established on Howard College Campus to assist the callers.

  1. Registration

Registration will be online and starts on the 8th January 2018. Students can register from home or in dedicated Lans on campus. Information about registration dates, venues, fees and payment, orientation and parents’ day will be available on the university and college websites shortly.
