University of Limpopo (UL) Reakgona Disability Centre

Reakgona Disability Centre is a centre of excellence- first of its kind in the country. It is well equipped with advanced enabling technology to facilitate teaching and learning of students with disabilities, for example visually impaired students, physically disabled students and students with severe medical conditions.

To achieve its goals, the RDC provides the following services:

  • Orientation and Mobility training for blind students
  • Low Vision Reading facilities for partially sighted  students
  • Audio and Braille library services
  • Computer laboratory with computers having a JAWS programme installed for use by blind students
  • Braille production facilities for the conversion of print into braille

For the student to qualify for services in the RDC, the Centre must be provided with proof of disability or medical condition from a doctor or a medical professional. The report must state that you are legally visually or physically disabled or have a medical condition that significantly limits functioning in one or more areas including but not limited to, reading, writing, travel or other activities of daily living. Students are not forced to disclose their disabilities to the University, but you should carefully consider the advantages of doing so.
