Intellectual disability is one of the most overlooked disabilities in South Africa. The Western Cape Forum for Intellectual Disability (WCFID) has, since its inception in 1971, played a pivotal role in the development of skills, knowledge and the advancement of rights within the intellectual disability sector.

Job Title: Survey Administrator/Research Assistant 
Job Location: Cape Town
Job Type: a 4-month part-time contract post (20 hrs per week, mornings, with flexibility).

The position is suitable for a post-graduate student with an interest in community development and research. Established in 1971, the Forum is a support network for service providers in the field of intellectual disability and based in Maitland.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Health Sciences/Education/Social Science
  • Training and experience in research

  • Training and experience in research
  • 5 years work experience, preferably in social development/health/education research/disability studies
  • Strong computer literacy, data collection, analysis and report writing skills
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to engage with community-based NGOs
  • Research experience with an ability to put across complex issues in simple, understandable language
  • An ability to work independently and within a team
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the Western Cape
  • Fluency in English and isiXhosa (Afrikaans would be an advantage), spoken and written
  • Driver’s license

Able to start by February 2019.
