Western TVET College Registration Date 2017

WELCOME TO WESTCOL

Follow these steps (1-7) to become a WESTCOL student.

RETURNING STUDENTS – WELCOME BACK

Please collect a print-out of your course history at the examination office.

STEP 1: ENQUIRY DESK

All new students MUST write a PLACEMENT TEST to assist you to make the right career choice.

You will be assisted to book an appointment for the PLACEMENT TEST.

Please ensure that you get a booking slip with a date, time and venue number.

Please ensure that you sign the enquiry register.

You will receive a registration pack with all the necessary documents.

STEP 2: PLACEMENT TEST – ONLY NEW STUDENTS

Staff members will explain to you and assist you to complete all the necessary forms of the Registration pack and to complete the placement test.

You will receive a printout of your result.

CAS form must be completed.

STEP 3: PROGRAMME /SUBJECT ADVISORS

The programme/subject advisors will advise you regarding the programme and subject choices based on your interest and the placement test outcomes and assist you to complete the SUBJECT CHOICE form.

Students will indicate whether they are going to pay for their fees or apply for a bursary and will be directed to the relevant venue/desk.

STEP 4: PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS AND BURSARY APPLICATIONS

OPTION 1 – NSFAS BURSARY

  • Staff members will assist you to ensure that the application is complete and that all relevant documentation is attached.
  • Once all the documents are checked, the enrolment form is stamped to indicate that the student is applying for a bursary.
  • On completion of this step you will be directed to the verification desks.
OPTION 2 – FINANCIAL AGREEMENT (PRIVATE AND EMPLOYER STUDENTS)

  • Employer student will have to submit a letter from the sponsor to be able to proceed to the Coltech registration desk.
  • Private students (responsible for paying their own fees) must complete a financial agreement, indicating the deposit and the payment terms (monthly instalment).
  • Students with outstanding debts will be assisted to make the necessary payment arrangements.
  • On completion of this step you will be directed to the verification desks.

VERIFICATION DESK

All documents will be checked and verified before a student will be directed to the Coltech registration desk.

STEP 5: COLTECH ENROLMENT DESK

You will then proceed to the registration desk to finalise the registration and will receive five (5) copies of proof of registration (PoR) that are printed and you will have to check for correctness.

STEP 6: STUDENT PHOTO

Your photo will be taken to print your student card.

STEP 7:BOOKSHOP

Proof of registration is used as a receipt to obtain textbooks at the bookshop.

In order to facilitate access to TVET studies the Department of Higher Education (DHET) has made bursaries available.

CRITERIA for BURSARY APPLICATIONS
  1. ONLY South African citizens are eligible to apply.
  2. Students must be registered or intending to register on an NC (V) or Report 191 programme.
  3. In need of financial assistance (a Means Test is administered to determine whether or not a student meet this criterion).
  4. Able to demonstrate potential for academic success.
THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS APPLY:
  1. Students may not enrol for less than three (3) subjects.
  2. Only students that were academically successful may apply for the next academic level.
  3. Westcol reserves the right to verify the information on the application form. This information will be treated as confidential.
  4. Employer students may not apply.
  5. 100% class attendance is expected to qualify for the transport and accommodation allowance.
  6. Bursary recipients who switch from one programme to another (i.e. from NC (V) to Report 191 programmes: N1 – N3 or vice-versa) or change programmes within an NC (V) or Report 191 programme during the course of their studies are not eligible for financial assistance
  7. Bursary recipients who complete NC (V) Level 4 are eligible for financial assistance should they want to enrol for Report 191 N4 – N6.
DOCUMENTATION NEEDED:
  1. Four original certified copies of student’s ID.
  2. Original certified copy of parent’s/guardian’s/spouses’ ID.
  3. Original certified copies of ID of each member of the household.
  4. One copy of original certified copy of parent’s/guardian’s/spouses’ payslip.
  5. One copy of most recent school report or statement of results.
  6. Proof of death in event that parents are deceased.
  7. Affidavit of parents/guardians if they are unemployed
  8. Transport Allowance – Students who reside further than ten (10) kilometres from the college may be considered for an award for travel allowance, subject to the availability of funds. Students who use public transport MAY only submit an affidavit of monthly transport cost if receipts/tickets/slips are not available. Please state route and daily fare
