SENIOR LECTURER/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/PROFESSOR: ORGANIC CHEMISTRY

DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY – ALICE CAMPUS

The Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Agriculture is seeking the services of an individual committed to excellence in teaching, research and community outreach in the field of Organic chemistrywith research focus in natural products. The successful applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in organic chemistry; supervise postgraduate students at MSc and PhD levels, conduct research, monitor and maintain organic chemistry research laboratory facilities

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Organic chemistry including other related topic such as Natural product chemistry, environmental/analytical chemistry.
  • Supervise MSc and PhD students.
  • Attract research funding to support postgraduate student training and the conduct of community engagement activities.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary researches with colleagues in relates field.
  • Participate in the administration of the Department of Chemistry.

 

Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • A PhD degree in Organic chemistry with specialisation in Natural Product Chemistry.
  • Ability to teach other modules in Organic chemistry.
  • Experience in teaching large class especially first year chemistry in analytical/organic/inorganic chemistry.
  • At least ten (10) years teaching and research experience at tertiary level for a Professor, eight (8) years for Associate Professor and five (5) years for Senior Lecturer
  • Sound knowledge of organic analytical procedures.
  • Research experience supported by a good publication record and the ability to attract research funding. Must have a minimum of 25 peer-reviewed ISI/SAPSE accredited journals in   natural product chemistry with specific emphasis on South Africa flora or indigenous plants.
  • NRF rated Scientist
