BCom Human Resource Management at University of Pretoria

Human Resource Management or Bachelor of Commerce in Human Resource Management is an undergraduate Commerce course. Human resource management is the management of an organization’s workforce or human resources.

The duration of the course is three years and its syllabus is divided into six semesters.

Minimum admission requirements

To be able to register, candidates must comply with the minimum requirements for degree studies, as well as with the minimum requirements for the relevant program.

The calculation of an Admission Point Score (APS) is based on a candidate’s achievement in any SIX recognized NSC 20-credit subjects by using the NSC seven-point rating scale.

Life Orientation is a 10-credit subject and may not be used for calculating the APS.

Life Orientation is also not a faculty-specific subject requirement.

Human resources practitioners, human resources consultants, mediators, labour relations specialists, human resources managers, personnel managers, training officers, liaison officers, psychometrists and industrial psychologists.

In their capacity as human resources practitioners, graduates will be responsible for matters such as developing human resource strategies and policies, human resource planning, recruitment and selection of employees, training and development of staff, labour relations and personnel administration.

What subjects are needed for HR?

English Home Language (3) or English Additional Language (4), Mathematical Literacy (3) and/or Accounting (3).

National Diploma in Human Resource Management or equivalent qualification with Industrial Psychology 111 or Human Resource Management 111.

Three years of full-time study.

Four to eight years of part-time study.
