Most Civil Engineering Technicians and Technologists are employed in industry in one of the two ‘traditional’ areas namely the Building industry or the Civil Engineering industry,and may be involved in planning, designing or constructing. Within each of these areas, Technicians and Engineers may be employed either in consulting offices, for a local authority or for a contractor.
National Diploma: Engineering – Civil Entry Requirements (DBN and PMB)
Bachelor of Technology: Engineering – Civil Entry Requirements (DBN and PMB)
Every Candidate should have:
- Completed the requirements for the National Diploma: Engineering: Civil or the National Higher Diploma: Civil Engineering or have been granted conferment of status of one of these qualifications
and
- completed a minimum of one year of appropriate experience in the desired field of specialization (this may include experience gained whilst undertaking experiential learning) if a former student of the Durban University of Technology, and three years of appropriate post diploma experience in the desired field of specialization if from another institution.
Master of Engineering (Civil) Entry Requirements (DBN and PMB)
1. completed the requirements for the Baccalaureus Technologiae: Engineering: Civil;
or
2. have been granted a conferment of status for the above-mentioned qualification.
INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAMME
The Masters Degree can be undertaken in one of the following manners:
1. a full research option
or
2. a partial research option with a course work component. In this case the course work component must be an approved Post Graduate Diploma in Engineering (or equivalent) in the chosen field of specialisation.
In either option where a student has not already completed a Research Methodology course then he/she will be required to complete it concurrently with his/her research.
Doctor of Engineering (Civil) Entry Requirements (DBN and PMB)
Every candidate for this qualification shall have:
1. completed the requirements for the Magister Technologiae: Engineering: Civil;
or
2. have been granted a conferment of status for the above-mentioned qualification.
INSTRUCTIONALPROGRAMME
The Doctoral Degree can only be undertaken as a full research option.
National Diploma: Surveying Entry Requirements
This instructional programme has a minimum duration of two (2) semesters if undertaken on a full-time basis or four (4) semesters if undertaken on a part-time or block basis.
1. completed the requirements for the National Diploma: Surveying or the National Higher Diploma: Surveying or have been granted conferment of status of one of these qualifications
and
2. completed a minimum of one year of post diploma experience in the field of surveying or an appropriate aligned field.
Bachelor of Technology: Surveying Entry Requirements
Master of the Built Environment Entry Requirements
Requirements:
1. completed the requirements for the Baccalaureus Technologiae: Surveying;
or
2. have been granted a conferment of status for the above-mentioned qualification.
INSTRUCTIONALPROGRAMME
The Master’s Degree can only be undertaken by means of a full research option.
Where a student has not already completed a Research Methodology course then he/she will be required to complete it concurrently with his/her research.
Doctor of Philosophy in Surveying Entry Requirements
Every candidate for this qualification shall have:
1. completed the requirements for the Magister Technologiae: Surveying
or
2. have been granted a conferment of status for the above-mentioned qualification.
INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAMME
The Doctoral Degree can only be undertaken as a full research option.
