Strong at maths and flair for fashion? Then the BCom is the course for you to start your career in the business of fashion.

This programme offers a wide range of subject choices relating to fashion and retail, with a strong focus on the science, art and business of fashion. Our courses have been developed by leaders in fashion and retail with a view to giving you the most progressive and relevant education in the business. The programme specialises in fashion business disciplines, including financial management, marketing and brand management, cost accounting, logistics, planning, supply chain management, factory practice and trend analysis.

With a BCOM degree from LISOF, you’ll get an in depth understanding of the business of fashion which is adaptable to all areas of the fashion retail market. Our highly regarded formal courses are only a part of the learning experience we offer. At LISOF we expose you to the industry at large and make sure that you engage in real-life job situations.

The minimum admission requirement is a National Senior Certificate (NSC) WITH exemption.

BCOM specific subject pre-requisite: Mathematics: Pure maths minimum result of 50% and maths literacy with a minimum result of 80%

AND a minimum of 55% for the LISOF BCom Assessment Test

Higher Certificate

A Higher Certificate in Fashion from LISOF is a ONE YEAR – FULL TIME Course that will give you access to a broad array of career opportunities in the fashion and retail industries. Ideal for students who passed Matric, but without exemption. This programme offers you an introduction to the fundamentals of fashion practice. The Higher Certificate programme comprises of a fixed curriculum of eight courses thus providing you with a solid balanced foundation in all areas of the fashion industry – Commerce, Creative, Technical and Contextual.

*Note LISOF DOES NOT offer a National Senior Certificate course!

REQUIREMENTS

National Senior Certificate (Matric Certifcate) – NO EXEMPTION NEEDED!

National Certificate Vocational (Min 30% for English)

A qualification related to the proposed field of study achieved on NQF Level 4 OR be of mature age (23 years or older) with relevant work experience

Admission via recognition or prior learning (RPL): Partial Exemption of courses; credit transfer or advanced standing.

AND No need to write an assessment test!

CERTIFICATION

With a LISOF qualification, you’ll be well ahead of the rest when it comes to bagging yourself that dream job! Diploma in Fashion

REQUIREMENTS

National Senior Certificate or equivalent without endorsement. (Minimum achievement rating of ‘3’ [40 – 49%] in four or more NCS subjects + Life Orientation

National Certificate Vocational (minim achievement of 60% in three fundamental subjects i.e. Group A Fundamental Component [including the language of learning and teaching] + at least 70% in four compulsory vocational subjects i.e. Group B Vocational Component)

Mature age exemption: admission granted to students older than 23 years with relevant work experience with a National Senior Certificate.

Short Courses

This programme offers a viable alternative to full-time study and has subjects relating to fashion. From the fashion design disciplines through to professional make-up techniques. Our courses have been developed by leaders in fashion and retail with a view to giving you the most progressive and relevant education in the business.

Register for one of our exciting Short Courses (6 month cycles):

MAKE-UP: After completing the Make-Up Short Course, you will understand the ‘language’ of make-up and styling, opening the door to make-up artist and styling work for advertising and magazine shoots, modelling agencies, movie, television and video production, fashion shows, salons, spas and theatre.

– KIT is made up of MAC Cosmetics

FASHION DESIGN: After successful completion of the Fashion Design short course, you will have been introduced to the principles of design as well as some practical application of this knowledge. The course will give you the grounding to continue developing your skills on your own, perhaps leading to an exciting new career.

PATTERN MAKING: After successful completion of the Pattern Construction short course, you will be able to develop the patterns for a range of basic items or apparel. The principles and underscore pattern making will be taught. This course gives you a foundation to continue developing your pattern making knowledge and skills on your own, whereby you can make into a sustainable career.

GARMENT CONSTRUCTION (SEWING): Once completed the Garment Construction / Sewing short course, you will be able to make a range of basic garments and understand sewing principles that are needed when putting together a garment. The course will give you the grounding to develop your knowledge and skills, perhaps leading to an exciting new career.
