Merit awards

The primary and most substantial form of assistance for Honours, Masters & Doctoral students is granted on the basis of merit.

Merit awards are funded from a variety of sources, and the primary awards that are available to Honours Masters and Doctoral students are applied for via the NRF and MRC. (See Research scholarships.)

Students should also please refer to the NRF Website – www.nrf.ac.za.

University-sourced merit awards can be applied for only by students who have applied to the NRF. For application procedures see UCT merit and need awards.

South African applicants for UCT Merit and Needs-Based awards are required to complete Form 10A:

• 2017 Application for Financial Assistance for South African & Permanent Resident Postgraduate (honours, master’s & doctoral) students

Closing date EXTENDED TO : 14 November 2016.
Continuing students applying for renewal are required to complete Form 10B.

International and Refugee Students are required to complete Form 10C:

• 2017 Application for International/Refugee Scholarships for Postgraduate full-time (honours, master’s & doctoral) students

Closing date was: 31 July 2016.
Continuing International and Refugee students applying for renewal are required to complete Form 10F.

Each December individual Faculties make merit awards to graduating students who have performed exceptionally well. The academic departments identify recipients, and an application form for this category of award is not required.
