Residence students

If you have received an offer of admission to residence and have accepted it, you are required to arrive at your residence on the dates below.

  • First year students:

Saturday, 28 January 2017 between 09:00 – 16:00

 

Sunday, 29 January 2017 between 09:00 – 13:00

  • Returning UG students: 2 February 2017

If you are unable to enrol and move in to your residence by the allocated date, you will forfeit your place.

We regret that because the number of residence applications exceeds the number of residence vacancies, applicants who do not receive written confirmation of an offer of a place in a residence will need to arrange private accommodation off campus.

Description of Residences

Living within a residence hall environment can be one of the most rewarding experiences of a student’s career.

Faculty/student interaction in a residence, developing competence in all aspect of leadership, shaping a community from a cross-cultural perspective, late night discussions with peers/fellow students – these are just a few of the many opportunities that residence life provides, apart from sporting and social activities.

In catering residences, meals are provided as part of the residence package.
In self-catering accommodation, no meals are provided, but the residence provides catering facilities, including stoves, microwaves and fridges.

The residences are divided into six clusters and vary in size and layout. The clusters are:

NB: All applications are done online, not directly with the residences.

Residences are linked to all campuses by means of a bus service between 07:00 and 24:00. A special shopping bus links the residences to the Rosebank precinct on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

At Wits, our residences are LIVING and LEARNING centres. We offer a wide variety of residence accommodation, ranging from single-gender residences, catering residence, to mixed-gender residences.

Campus Housing and Residence Life, is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the University’s residence programme, including accommodation and meals, and the provision of recreational facilities and programmes for the improved academic performance and the holistic development of students within a residential environment.
