2017 Spring Graduations Commence At TUT
The annual Tshwane University of Technology Spring Graduation ceremonies, that commence from 10 to 20 October 2017, will see 5 047 successful students receiving their qualifications. This brings the total number of qualifications conferred on successful students in 2017 to more than 15 000.
The graduation ceremonies for the Faculties of Information and Communication Technology; Economics and Finance; as well as Humanities, will take place at TUT’s Soshanguve Campus from 10 to 12 October.
The remainder of the ceremonies for the Faculties of the Arts; Engineering and the Built Environment; Science; as well as Management Sciences will take place at the Pretoria Campus from 18 to 20 October.
On 10 October, the Faculty of Information and Communication will confer 358 qualifications while Economics and Finance will confer 372 qualifications.
During the Faculty of Humanities’ first graduation ceremony, 190 successful students in Educational Studies, Mathematics, Science and Technology Education will receive their qualifications. A total of 435 students from all other departments within Faculty of Humanities will receive their qualifications on 12 October.
The Faculties of the Arts and Engineering and the Built Environment will confer 34 and 527 qualifications respectively during the two ceremonies on 18 October.
On 19 October 272 successful students from the Faculty of Engineering and the built Environment will graduate, while the Faculty of Science will confer qualifications on 284 students.
On 20 October the Faculties of Science and Management Sciences will confer 85 and 463 qualifications respectively.
A total of 35 doctorate degrees will also be conferred while the University will honour two individuals for their contributions to the country and their fields of specialisation by conferring honorary doctorates on them.
On 18 October celebrated actress Ms Lillian Dube, best known for her Soul City alter ego, Sister Bettina, will be honoured for a life-time in the entertainment industry. She was born in Orlando East, Soweto, 72 years ago. She chose the series over other projects time and again, since it has given a voice to people who previously couldn’t speak up for themselves, especially women.
The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) is also privileged to bestow an honorary doctorate degree on an individual who has dedicated a large part of his life to the advancement of engineering, science and technology, which is this University’s heartbeat. Congratulations to Hungararian born Prof József (Joseph) Karger-Kocsis, who will receive an honorary doctorate on 19 October.
Prof Lourens van Staden, Vice-Chancellor and Principal extended a word of congratulations on their achievements to the successful graduates and expressed his gratitude for the steady annual incline in the number of students who complete their studies successfully.
