3 Vacancies at Goodman Gallery, Cape Town

1. Position: Production Manager

Goodman Gallery is looking for a someone to join its team in Cape Town on a full time basis in the capacity of Production Manager.

Reports to: Gallery Manager and group director
Working Hours: Monday-Friday 9:00-17:30, with occasional weekend work and travel where required
Required Qualification: Relevant industry experience
Salary: Dependent on experience

Summary

The Production Manager performs duties related to art and exhibition preparation including, but not limited to, installation, de-installation, packing and sourcing of materials and managing of staff associated with exhibitions. This position requires the capacity and willingness to perform significant hands-on work, excellent administrative skills and good knowledge of audio-visual systems. A driver’s licence is essential.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing and executing all aspects of installations and de-installations including artworks, mounts, electronic equipment and other exhibition components.
  • Working closely with curators and artists on preparation of space and artworks for exhibition, including facilitating the production of any artworks, mounts and presentation elements required.
  • Managing the sourcing and coordination of services including those related to artwork production and exhibition.
  • Arranging and supervising staffing needs for technical and material aspects on installation and de-installation of exhibitions.
  • Maintaining a long-term planning calendar associated to exhibition schedules (locally as well as off-site and internationally) and liaising with suppliers, curators and directors regarding deadlines.
  • Organising and maintaining of gallery tools, supplies, equipment and spaces
  • Managing sourcing, maintenance and installation of electronic equipment including projectors, digital players, screens, sound and lighting.
  • Providing input to artists and curators in the resolution of technically challenging installations.
  • Providing technical guides for installations where required.
  • Production cost and budget management.
  • Film archive management.
  • Upon request, the coordination of and assistance with offsite installation/ de-installation of artwork for clients or artists

2. After Sales and Inventory Manager

Goodman Gallery is looking for a someone to join our team in Cape Town on a full time basis in the capacity of Inventory Manager and Client After Sales Liaison.

Reports to: Gallery Manager
Working Hours: Monday-Friday 9:00-17:30, with occasional evening or weekend work where required
Required Qualification: Minimum Bachelors degree or equivalent relevant experience
Salary: Dependent on experience

Summary

The combined responsibilities of Inventory Management and After Sales require a successful candidate to manage all processes relating to inventory management as well as communications from time of sale to delivery of artworks. Required skills include excellent communication as well as administrative skills, attention to detail, as well as basic accounting skills.

  • Duties include, but are not limited to:

After Sales

  • Processing and invoicing of sales in Cape Town as well as assisting with Art Fair sales.
  • Liaising with clients with regards to invoicing, additional services, freight and delivery logistics, payment.
  • Facilitating framing of artworks on behalf of clients.
  • Working closely with art handling, shipping or courier companies as required.
  • Managing delivery schedule for clients for Cape Town Gallery and related processes, as well as onsite supervision of client delivery or installation where needed.
  • Management of petty cash.

Inventory Management

  • Loading of inventory to database system.
  • Facilitating image documentation and correcting images on inventory system.
  • Responsibility for inventory processes relating to all artworks arriving or departing the gallery including warehouse transfers, delivery notes, and condition reports.
  • Managing stock lists for insurance and stock control purposes.
  • Managing inventory storage including cataloging, location allocation and packaging.
  • Managing loan and consignment procedures: generating loan and consignment forms, condition reports, travel conditions, appropriate packing and crating, shipping documentation.
  • Tracking appro, loan and consignment durations and managing processes relating to return or onward movement of artworks.
  • Adhering to gallery processes and appropriate filing of paperwork.

3. Front of House – Gallery Assistant

Goodman Gallery is looking for someone to join our team in Cape Town on a full time basis in the capacity of Gallery Assistant.

Reports to: Gallery Manager
Working Hours: Tuesday-Friday 9:00-17:30 and Saturday 9:00-16:00; with occasional evening or weekend work where required
Required Qualification: BFA or BA (preferably majoring in Art History or Literature)
Salary: Dependent on Experience

  • Managing switchboard
  • Receiving visitors and fielding artist, exhibition and sales enquiries

  • Tracking and ordering of office supplies.
  • Assisting with organisation of gallery events/dinners/catering.
  • Provide administrative and sales assistance to curators and sales staff.
