2020 University of KwaZulu-Natal Online Application Form

University of KwaZulu-Natal Application 2020 :To apply to the University of Cape Town , you need the documents below :

1) A certified copy of the green bar coded ID

2) Proof of payment of any relevant application fees

3) Certified copy of grade 11 results and any latest grade 12 results

FYI: South Africans learners wishing to apply online will need a working email address and an ID number. Foreign learners wishing to apply will need to have their passport number.

Application Form

Please read these notes before completing the attached application form
1. The non-refundable application fee or proof of payment MUST accompany this application form. Application fees sent by post should
be paid by cheque or postal order, not cash. Please ensure that cheques or postal orders are made out to the University of
KwaZulu-Natal. International and local applicants: Application fees can be paid by electronic transfer/bank deposit. Please find banking
details below.
2. The application form MUST be completed as fully and as accurately as possible to avoid delay in processing. Use names appearing
on the identity document when completing the form.
3. The University of KwaZulu-Natal is an English medium university. International students from non-English speaking countries must provide proof
of English proficiency. Please refer to the Postgraduate Application Guide for further information.
4. Applicants whose previous degrees were obtained at a foreign university or from universities outside South Africa must have their qualifications
evaluated by South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) prior to submitting an application to the University.
5. If you have attended another university please submit a full academic record or you must arrange for the Registrar of that University to submit to this University a full academic record for all years of study and a certificate of conduct to the University of KwaZulu-Natal (see page 8).
6. If you are applying for a Masters Degree or Phd please contact the relevant school regarding the format of the proposal on your chosen area of
research together with your application.
7. International students require a valid study visa to study in SA (See page 8).

Undergraduate Application Procedures for First Time South African Applicants

Semester 1: January 2020

  • your National Senior Certificate or Senior Certificate and have never studied at UKZN before,
    you have to make application to UKZN by completing a Central Application Office (CAO)
    application form.

          OR

  • If you are currently registered (or have been registered) at another institution for undergraduate studies and wish to apply for a transfer to UKZN, you must also complete the CAO application form.

Masters(Research) and Doctoral Studies
  • No closing date

Please remember to upload the following documents (where applicable):

  1. Certified copy of your ID/passport.
  2. Certified copy of your National Senior/Matric Certificate or O/A Levels or relevant school leaving qualification/certificate.
  3. Proof from Universities South Africa (previously known as HESA), that you qualify for admission to degree studies at South Africa universities, if you are an international applicant. For more information, refer to the undergraduate prospectus
  4. Certified copies of your degree certificate(s), academic record and certificate of conduct, if you attended other universities.
  5. Proof of English proficiency for International applicants from non-English speaking countries.
  6. South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) evaluations if the previous qualification(s) was/were obtained at foreign universities (outside South Africa).
  7. A research proposal/proposed title of the dissertation/thesis if you are applying for a Masters Degree or PhD.
  8. A valid study visa to study in SA if you are an International applicant.
  9. Please ensure to use reference APPN (followed by your student number) when making application fee payment.
  10. Before applying online please make sure that you have read the guidelines above.
  11. Please ensure that you have the HESA/SAQA documents to be uploaded in order to complete your application.

Application Status

Application Procedures

• List your programme choices on page one of the application form.  Please write the name of the programme in full.
• Provide your existing student number on page one of the application form if you have been registered before.
• Indicate if you which to apply for financial assistance.
• Indicate if you would like to be considered for accommodation in one of the UKZN residences.
• Enclose application fee or attach proof of payment.

• Return your completed application form with all the required documents and proof of payment of an application fee to the address on the front cover to reach us before or on the closing date.

• New applicants will be provided with a UKZN student number.
• Your student number must be quoted in all correspondence/enquiries to the UKZN.
• The UKZN will advise you of the outcome of your application in writing or by SMS.

Late applications will be only be considered if entry requirements are met and if spaces are available.

Semester 2     (August -November)

The closing date for semester 2 applications is 30th April

Application Check list

If you have been registered at UDW, UN or UKZN before and would like to complete your studies or enroll for another undergraduate programme, you must apply directly to UKZN.
• If you would like to apply for undergraduate non-degree studies or for an undergraduate programme not listed in the CAO Handbook, you must apply directly to UKZN.
• If you have not studied before and would like to apply for admission in the second semester of an academic year, you have to apply directly to UKZN. Only limited programmes will consider first time applicants for entry into semester 2.  Applications for semester 2 will only be considered if minimum requirements are met and  if spaces are available.
