In an effort to cultivate the saving culture among children, the Big R foundation and the department of education have embarked on a school campaign to teach children about the importance of saving money.

The foundation’s chairperson Aubrey Tshabalala says  it’s never too early to start teaching children about finances. Speaking on Morning Live, he  says the project was motivated by the lack of global financial knowledge and ability to handle finances among people even adults.

Through the project Tshabalala says they have noted an increase in the number of children opening bank accounts and expressing interest in their initiative. Some of the children started by selling sweets and then moved into more serious projects he said.
