Quality Improvement Advisor

Health Systems Trust (HST) wishes to appoint a Quality Improvement Advisor for a health systems strengthening project to be implemented in partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health (KZN DoH) in three districts in KZN. The project uses quality improvement strategies to accelerate the identification of HIV-positive children and adolescents and their enrolment in treatment, ensuring that clinical and community care linkages are improved so that they are retained in care.

The Quality Improvement Advisor will be responsible for leading, managing and providing high-level technical expertise and advice on quality improvement methodologies and strategies to address gaps in reaching the 90-90-90 targets.

This is a fixed-term contract position based at HST’s Durban office and is renewable based on continuation of funding.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical support in quality improvement (QI) to ensure that project deliverables are met to fast-track the achievement of 90-90-90 targets in the identified districts in KZN
  • Develop collaborative relationships with key partners internally and externally to ensure project success
  • Collaborate closely with the Lead Technical Team to frame QI plans and explore the latest evidence-based change ideas
  • Participate in regular planning sessions with the Lead Improvement Team and DoH teams
  • Utilise quality improvement tools and techniques to guide and supplement 90-90-90 district planning and implementation processes
  • Develop and utilise data systems to monitor implementation of QI plans using run charts
  • Conduct training and learning sessions on developing knowledge and skills in applying QI methodology
  • Provide support to the training team to monitor the implementation of training activities
  • Conduct site visits during intensive QI action periods
  • Compile monthly and quarterly monitoring and evaluation reports
  • Document and disseminate project success stories and lessons learnt.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A postgraduate qualification in Public Health at a Master’s level is highly recommended.
  • A Certificate in HIV Management (NIMART) is recommended.
  • Formal training in Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E)/Quality Improvement
  • At least five years’ experience working in the South African public health system and managing health-related data, including data verification and quality assurance
  • Background in research and/or information management
  • Experience in facilitating learning-orientated M&E training
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including the ability to develop run charts in Excel
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of quality improvement models
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prepare or edit proposals, reports and papers in a grammatically concise, scientifically correct manner
  • Willingness to work independently and as part of a team
  • A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel.

REMUNERATION

A salary package commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications and in line with HST’s job grading system will be offered.
