This is an exciting opportunity to join Highbury Media (Pty) Ltd, as an Online Editor for CapeTown Etc.com

Highbury Media (Pty) Ltd is an independent magazine and digital publishing company responsible for some of the best performing titles.

The successful candidate will be responsible for defining and executing the digital strategy for the Cape Town Etc.com brand, growing and interacting with the audience through social media channels with the aim of creating the number one, most frequently visited Cape Town tourism website.

Key duties will include:

  • Strategic content planning, management and scheduling
  • Supervision and direction
  • Responsible for ensuring all the brand’s site and platforms are up-to-date, relevant, on-brand, newsworthy, responsive and engaging
  • Work closely with the Cape Etc. editor to share content across the platforms
  • Works closely with Highbury senior team on the site and platform’s strategic success
  • Content creation, writing and posting for Cape Town Etc.com site, social content (text, visual/video), newsletters, advertising material and any other relevant content
  • Editing all content before posting to ensure content is factually correct and error free
  • Liaising with any and all internal and external resources as required
  • Lead and supervise follower and reader interaction online and on social platforms; manage, grow and protect the publication’s online image and social presence
  • Site and platform ongoing monitoring, escalation and regular reporting
  • Lead all competitions, surveys, polls and other interactive components
  • Development and/or direction of commercial/native content and ensuring that content matches platform
  • Events and PR – Represent and communicate as the online and social voice of Cape Town Etc.
  • Analytics – Use Google analytics and other measurement tools to provide weekly reports on metrics and continually find ways to improve on those metrics through new initiatives
  • Work closely with the sales manager to promote advertising opportunities on the website and social media channels

Requirements:

  • Three to five years of experience in digital media
  • Two+ years in a similar role
  • Experience and proven understanding of leading a website and social platforms
  • Excellent writing, editing and SEO skills
  • Leadership qualities including an energetic, positive approach to teamwork
  • The ability to motivate others and work effectively as part of a team with editors, photographers, videographers and freelancers, and sales to curate content and business opportunities for the site
  • A creative ability to ideate and execute content effectively, quickly and efficiently
  • An excellent working knowledge and understanding of Cape Town and Western Cape
  • A strong interest in Cape Town news, events, culture and lifestyle
  • A flexible, positive, solutions driven approach to their work
  • A commitment to producing excellent and compelling content
  • 3 years web editing skills
  • Experience in social media management Excellent command of the English language
  • Experience in content marketing and native advertising is an asset
  • Time management skills
  • Deadline driven
  • Must be proficient in WordPress and Photoshop
