Job Purpose | The Western Cape Government is seeking to employ a Professional Engineer in Structural Engineering to provide expert structural engineering services to ensure effective, efficient structural engineering solutions and standards that complies to legislation, regulations and standards for the directorate. |
Minimum Requirements | • Engineering Degree (B Eng/ BSC (Eng) or relevant qualification; • Compulsory registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer; • A minimum of 3 years’ post qualification engineering experience or completion of candidacy period; • A valid driver’s licence. NB: Persons who are not yet registered as Professional Engineers with ECSA are also invited to apply, and must submit proof of their application to ECSA to register as a Professional Engineer. |

Key Performance Areas | • Design new systems to solve practical engineering challenges and improve efficiency; • Ensure training and development of staff to promote skills/knowledge transfer and adherence to sound engineering principals and code of practice; • Manage resources and prepare and consolidate inputs for the facilitation of resource utilisation; • Liaise with relevant bodies/councils on engineering related matters; • Act as project coordinator when required and ensure quality of work and that design specifications and conditions of contract are adhered too. |
Competencies | • Knowledge of the following: o Engineering design and analysis; o Legal compliance; o Computer-aided engineering applications; o Contract Management and Project Management; • Computer literacy in MS Office (MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook); • Research and development skills; • Planning and Organising skills; • Communication (written & verbal) skills in two of the three official languages of the Western Cape. |
Remuneration | OSD as prescribed. Note on remuneration: MMS remuneration packages are flexible and may be individually structured as prescribed. Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees’ service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements. |
