Job Purpose The Western Cape Government is seeking to employ a Professional Engineer in Structural Engineering to provide expert structural engineering services to ensure effective, efficient structural engineering solutions and standards that complies to legislation, regulations and standards for the directorate.
Minimum Requirements • Engineering Degree (B Eng/ BSC (Eng) or relevant qualification; • Compulsory registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer; • A minimum of 3 years’ post qualification engineering experience or completion of candidacy period; • A valid driver’s licence. NB: Persons who are not yet registered as Professional Engineers with ECSA are also invited to apply, and must submit proof of their application to ECSA to register as a Professional Engineer.

Key Performance Areas • Design new systems to solve practical engineering challenges and improve efficiency; • Ensure training and development of staff to promote skills/knowledge transfer and adherence to sound engineering principals and code of practice; • Manage resources and prepare and consolidate inputs for the facilitation of resource utilisation; • Liaise with relevant bodies/councils on engineering related matters; • Act as project coordinator when required and ensure quality of work and that design specifications and conditions of contract are adhered too.
Competencies • Knowledge of the following: o Engineering design and analysis; o Legal compliance; o Computer-aided engineering applications; o Contract Management and Project Management; • Computer literacy in MS Office (MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook); • Research and development skills; • Planning and Organising skills; • Communication (written & verbal) skills in two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.
Remuneration OSD as prescribed.

Note on remuneration:
Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation-specific dispensations (OSD), the middle-management service (MMS) and contract positions are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc.

MMS remuneration packages are flexible and may be individually structured as prescribed. Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees’ service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
