About the Position
SARAO has an exciting opportunity for a Systems Analyst to join our team based in Cape Town. The main purpose of the role is to perform business analysis, systems analysis and systems engineering activities within the SARAO Science Processing team. The incumbent will work with the team manager, the technical lead, as well as subject matter experts to fulfil this systems engineering role.
Minimum education requirement:
- National Diploma in Engineering, Computer Science or related field with a minimum of 7 years’ experience
Or
- 4-year degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science or related field with 5 years’ experience
Minimum work experience required:
- 5 years’ experience in a Business and Systems Analysis, Systems Design, Engineering or Architecture role in an IT development project with a strong software focus
Desirable additional educational, work experience, and personal qualities:
- Relevant Business Analysis or System Engineering qualification or certificates e.g. INCOSE, IIBA.
- Experience in elicitation and elaboration of systems requirements and gap analysis
- Experience in systems integration and quality control
- Experience in iterative, model-driven agile approach to systems development
Duties include (but not limited to):
- Assume ownership of the team’s systems engineering products and deliverables
- Take responsibility for the improvement of system engineering efforts and adherence to organisational level expectations
- Compile baseline documents for each phase of the systems engineering process
- Compile specification documentation
- Take responsibility for the development and analysis of requirements allocated from project level by the engineering team
- Support the Science Processing team in managing systems engineering and systems analysis requirements internally and externally

Experience in:
- in architecture, design or development of large software projects
- globally distributed projects
- pay attention to detail
Knowledge of:
- systems engineering supporting tools e.g. eB, Innoslate
- model-driven approaches to systems engineering
- systems and process modelling languages e.g. UML, BPML
