PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To drive the governance and regulatory processes for the learning function in Sappi Southern Africa.

REPORTING TO: REGIONAL LEARNING MANAGER

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the development of the regional learning strategy by providing a perspective on the regulatory landscape from a SETA and national skills priority point of view.
  • Consolidate the competency requirements per job family on a quarterly basis and make recommendations to the Learning Council on prioritisation of learning solution development.
  • Monitor the cash flow of the learnership budgets and approve or decline requests for new learnerships depending on the availability of discretionary grants and internal funding.
  • Review the quality of business unit learning plans and advice Learning Managers on improvements.
  • Drive the continuous improvement of the elements that contribute to Sappi Southern Africa’s BEE scorecard by automating reporting measures and engaging with the empowerment agency to obtain approvals for policy and process decisions.
  • Perform quality assurance on all internally developed learning content and external provider content.
  • Contribute to the annual review of mandatory training and the list of legal certifications across all areas of Sappi Southern Africa.
  • Identify the areas where Sappi needs to formalise recognition of prior learning and drive the registration, vendor management and processes around it.
  • Actively identify types of training that can be converted to a digital format and areas where there is resistance to online learning and develop plans to address the issue and drive the adoption.
  • Act as policy owner for the study assistance policy and review policy dispensation requests from business units for all learning policies and make recommendations to the Learning Council the approval/decline of the requests.
  • Maintain process maps and standard operating procedures for all the learning processes and communicate them to the business.
  • Drive the vendor governance for all third party training provider and conduct functional audits at other business units according to the annually agreed schedule.
  • Ensure that reporting and record keeping is at standard for all SETA-subsidised programmes.
  • Consult with employees and managers in the Regional Head Office on learning related matters.
  • Support the input and quality assurance of development plans for employees.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor Degree in Human Resources Development or Industrial Psychology
  • 5 to 7 years’ experience in a learning function
  • Union exposure
  • Accredited Skills Development Facilitator
