Admission requirements

Academic requirements

The two main academic requirements for admission to the PhD degree are:

• A relevant master’s degree in an appropriate management-related area. The major part of the master’s degree (weight within degree) must consist of a written thesis.
• A minimum period of registration (residency) of two years.

What happens if a candidate does not have the relevant academic background?

The candidate can supply an extensive portfolio of Assessment and Recognition of Prior Learning (ARPL) and may also be requested to attend supplementary courses as specified by the USB.

Staying in touch

The candidate will be expected to be present at the USB from time to time at the discretion of his/her promoter. It is therefore advisable to reside within accessible distance of the USB

• For admission to the PhD in Futures Studies, you will require USB’s MPhil in Futures Studies or a relevant master’s degree which included a substantial written thesis.
