MAIN PURPOSE:

  • To effectively manage and lead the activities and staff on their allocated shift to deliver on shift targets of the Converting Plant, within the required company policies, procedures and legal requirements.

OPERATIONS

  • The Team leader ensures that the plant runs with at maximum efficiency at minimum cost:
  • Deviations are dealt with quickly and with urgency
  • All plant equipment is maintained in good working order
  • The plant is kept clean and uncluttered with all items accounted for.
  • Supervise operations of the process to ensure required production rates, PTP (95%), maximum availability (85%) and specified quality standards are achieved with minimum Palletizer Returns (0.25% of number of cases made), MUV and operating costs kept to minimum, OEE of 60%.

SAFETY

  • Monitor plant maintenance requirements and initiate reporting of requirements and concerns for action by shift crews and maintenance departments.
  • Monitor plant housekeeping and delegate tasks to ensure all areas kept in best possible condition.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis and other Continuous Improvement initiatives
  • Consumable costs are kept to an absolute minimum, paying particular attention to log saw blades. If this goes out of control, take immediate corrective action to resolve problem.
  • Comprehensive, neat and timely completion of shift documentation relating to all aspects of the plant
  • Ensure that all team members are working according to the safety requirements of their positions
  • Ensure that the work environment is safe and machinery/tools are used by trained personnel
  • Perform the role of supervisor in line with the level of responsibility appropriate with this position

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

  • All team members are trained, productive, disciplined workers with clear understanding of their role and level of performance.

  • Ensure crews have adequate training that has been appropriately documented.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Supervise and sign completion of all documentation to standard by shift crew.
  • Complete all documentation required in sufficient detail as per instructions within specified time constraints.

QUALITY

  • All work is done professionally and in line with documented safe-work procedures and instructions.
  • Develop new procedures where required
  • Supervise all work performed to ensure that applicable procedures and standards are followed.
  • Adhere to all instructions issued by management and ensure documentation thereof for future reference.
  • Ensure Planned Job Observations are done on all positions on a 6 monthly basis.

LEADERSHIP

  • Provide the necessary leadership to the shift under his/her control, particularly in resolving problems quickly.
  • Set an example as a supervisor by upholding and adhering to all company policies, procedures, standards and work instructions at all times.
  • Inspire crews to perform by maintaining a positive attitude and striving for world class standards.
  • Be responsible for all safety concerns and all unsafe conditions and the immediate and appropriate response to such situations while on shift.
  • Undertake tasks that may be requested from him/her which is safe and reasonable

REQUIREMENTS

  1. FORMAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum N4/NQF 4 with mathematics or science
  • Recognized trade qualification
  • Recognized production management and supervisory qualification

 

  1. WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Five years supervisory experience in supervising a production team in a FMCG environment, preferably tissue converting
  • Computer literacy essential
  • Experience with a recognized quality assurance system, such as ISO 9001
  • Working knowledge of OSH act, Nampak company policies & procedures, Basic Conditions of Employment, LRA & Environmental policy
