The Faculty was one of the first in South Africa to develop “Master of Laws” by courseworkprogrammes and several of its programmes have been running continuously for decades.
The course leaders are seasoned academics and the modules are presented by a group of highlyqualified and dedicated academics assisted by guest lecturers from academia and practice. Generallythe coursework programmes consist of three taught semester modules and a minor dissertation. Toaccommodate students who work, lectures in each taught module are presented once a week afterhours. Student numbers per module are capped to ensure that classes are small enough to allow forinteractive teaching.

Students who register for the first time in 2016 and complete their Master’s degrees within a period of two years, qualify for a reimbursement of their full tuition fees (excluding the registration fee and ITlevy) subject to certain terms and conditions. The main condition is that the tuition fees must not havebeen paid by third parties, for example an employer.

Purpose of the qualification

The purpose of this qualification is to enable a student to demonstrate an ability to master at an advanced level the current state of knowledge on a given topic within a particular branch of the law.
