Job description

Friends of Design: Academy of Digital Arts – located in Cape Town – require a skilled and experienced web developer to join our team of passionate Lecturers. We are seeking someone who is passionate about education and who enjoys teaching young inquisitive minds.

A person who enjoys helping others to grow and to help nurture the talent of young creatives. Our ideal candidate is an experienced web developer with deep understanding of the core fundamentals and principles of modern web development practices. We are seeking the type of person who reads about the latest changes, trends and movements in the industry daily. Developers who love to freelance are especially welcome. It would be beneficial if the candidate has prior teaching experience, however, this is not required.

Requirements

  • HTML and CSS (HTML5 and CSS3)
  • Cross browser compatibility
  • ATOM, Brackets, Sublime, etc.
  • Filezilla or FTP tools
  • Web Hosting, Domains and Servers
  • Bootstrap/media queries
  • JavaScript and jQuery
  • PHP and WordPress
  • SASS and PUGJS
  • Design Patterns / Development Patterns
  • Agile Software Development Methodology
  • Repositories – (Git or Mercurial)
  • General research skills

 

Advantageous

  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Understands Web Design processes, i.e. wire-framing, mockups, etc.
  • Wire-framing and Prototyping tools – Balsamiq, Invision, Zepplin, etc.
  • UX concepts and principles
  • Responsive Design Principles
  • Story-mapping
  • Understanding of persona creation and identification
  • Basic Marketing – Target market, Swot Analysis, Demographics, Psychometric etc
  • Any other precomplied or markup languages – Coffee Script, Typescript
  • Node.js, React, Ember or Express
  • Terminal or Command
  • Lecturing/Teaching experience
