WORK DESIGN SPECIALIST MECHANICAL

Illawarra Coal is a long term and leading coking coal supplier which operates two underground metallurgical coal mines, two preparation plants and a logistics chain.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Superintendent Work Management Planning, we are currently seeking a Mechanical Work Design Specialist to bring their knowledge and skills to the team at Illawarra. The role of the Work Design Specialist is to develop well designed work plans for planned work to be executed during maintenance shutdowns at the preparation plants.

What the Role Entails

• Create and plan SAP work orders as per defined scope and area of responsibility that enables effective deployment of resources (personnel, service providers, tools and equipment, materials);
• Determine work methodologies and develop detailed instructions consistent with the South 32 Well Designed Work (WDW) framework and safe systems of work, including isolations;
• Ensure all work design conforms to legislative requirements;
• Coordinate the development and prioritisation of shutdown scope of work in consultation with key site stakeholders;
• Engage contractors and or site execution resources required to complete the work;
• Procure/organise materials, tools and equipment required to complete the work;
• Provide the Supply Warehouse & Inventory Sub-function with relevant information related to material quantity requirements for generated work schedule;
• Conduct Pre -Shut preparation activities in accordance with South 32 Australia Region Shutdown Readiness Standard;
• Conduct Post Shut improvement activities focused on:
  • Work design / Work Pack improvement
  • Safety management plan improvement
  • Schedule / Critical path optimization
  • Quality control and assurance
  • Productivity improvement
• Supervise contractors and or site based execution resources during shutdowns;
• Conduct safety and quality of work verifications during shutdowns;
• Provide to scheduling a preliminary schedule for shutdown work based on work design, interactions and work activity and shut durations;
• Request the creation and change of WM Master Data, based on equipment strategy reviews, failure analysis and identified quality errors, including Master Data related to modifications and small projects;
• Identify and create corrective / non strategy task lists for reoccurring work to support efficient and effective planning and safe work execution.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Mechanical Trade (or equivalent with a strong Mechanical aptitude) with experience in Heavy Industry, ideally in the Coal Mining Industry;
• Sound knowledge & experience using SAP or similar CMMS;
• Maintenance Planning and scheduling experience in a similar role;
• Experience in writing detailed and well designed work instructions;
• Experience with MS Office suite, especially MS Excel, MS Word and MS Project;
• Master Data understanding and processing;
• Be self-motivated, have good attention to detail and be proactive in your approach while also being focused on continuous improvement.

Illawarra Coal (Processing) operations are located in the southern coalfields of New South Wales, near the city of Wollongong and approximately 75 kilometres south and southwest of Sydney.
