Diploma:Fashion and Higher Certificate: Fashion

  • Download the Application formDiploma: fashion or Higher Certificate: fashion or phone the college to request one to be emailed to you.
  • Prepare the portfolio: 3 designs, the essay (see the requirements in the form) and any other work that you feel will add to your portfolio
  • Gather all your documents (Matric Certificate, Copy of your ID, testimonials from your school or other associations)
  • Post or Courier to DAF, or even drop it off.
  • Should you want to chat to the owner of the school or get a tour before you start, please contact usto make an appointment with the Managing Director (Bianca Fobian).
  • You will be informed whether or not you have been accepted within two weeks of applying
  • If accepted, the following documents will be sent to you: an Acceptance Letter, the Acceptance Form and a copy of the Academic Rules and Regulations.
  • The Acceptance form must be completed and signed by both yourself and the person responsible for fees. The original must be returned to DAF.
  • Pay your registration fee on or before the date stipulated on the acceptance letter.

For students who wish to be credited with some courses due to prior studies OR who are older than 23 but do not have a Matric certificate, please contact DAF for a Recognition of Prior Learning application. This needs to be done together with your application.

Short Courses

  • Download the Application form for the short course of your choice or phone the college to request one to be emailed to you.
  • Post , email or even drop it off at DAF.
  • Once you have been accepted your registration will need to be paid in order to secure your spot

Design Academy of Fashion Application Foreign Students

Applicants that do not live in the Republic of South Africa should read through the following steps carefully. This will give an indication of the time frame which should be taken into account when applying. It is suggested that the process commence as early as possible.

 

  1. Applicants are required to have a Matric Certificate with the relevant endorsement or equivalent thereof. A foreign qualification can be certified by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) . You can also go here directly to download the form. Please note that the process can take anything from 10 to 30 working days. Please check the form for applicable fees.
  2. You may apply at the Design Academy of Fashion in the meantime, however, acceptance will be based on the outcome from SAQA for foreign students.
  3. Simply complete the Application form and submit along with your essay, storyboard, copy of your Passport and a copy of your latest learner record. Proof of payment of the R2000,00 application fee for non South African citizens must also accompany the application. If you have already received your certificate from SAQA please submit this as well. All copies need to be certified as true copies of the original. You can post the portfolio, taking into account that the postal service may also take up to 4 weeks, OR you may courier it, OR scan everything and email it to us. Please ensure that all copies, once scanned are readable.
  4. DAF will send you an acceptance letter once your portfolio is approved, stating the duration of the course you applied for.
  5. You will then need to go to the nearest South African Embassy or Consulate in order to apply for a Study Visa, using the acceptance letter. The Embassy will advise of any further requirements as well as fees payable before acceptance. The visa may take up to 8 weeks . Once you have received your visa, you can book your trip to the RSA.
  6. On arrival at DAF a copy of the study visa will be required for your file. The study visa must state specifically that the student will be studying at the Design Academy of Fashion.
  7. DAF does not offer accommodation, We are, however, happy to assist students, where possible, in finding suitable accommodation

Design Academy of Fashion Fees & Funding

Registration must be paid annually, on acceptance of the portfolio for the 1st year learner applicants and on a pre-determined registration date for the 2nd and 3rd year learners.

Student fee payment options include full payment on or before the 31st January of the academic year (less 5% discount); or alternatively on a half yearly basis (payments to be made by the 31st January and 31st July); or on a quarterly basis (payments to be made on or before the commencement of the new / next term).

Those electing to pay the full fees, i.e. the balance of the annual school fees excluding the registration payment, should note that this must be paid by the 31st of January each year in order to qualify for the single payment concession.

In the event of no proof of payment being received by the institution or payment made later that the due date and proof of payment has not been submitted, the payee shall have 5 days to remedy the situation.

In the event that payment or proof of payment is not received within 5 days, a letter of suspension will be issued to the learner which will have the effect of barring the learner from further attendance at the institution and progress reports and or diplomas will not be awarded until such time as the situation is remedied.

Registered students may cancel their registration before the 1st of January of the year for which they are registered. Cancellation must be made in writing to the Administrative Director. In the event that a learner registers after the 1st of January they will have until the 31st of January to cancel their enrolment at DAF after which they will be liable for the full year’s fees for which they are registered. In all cases applicants will forfeit the registration fee.

Bursaries & Financial Aid
Students will be informed of any bursaries offered by industry and the South African National Fashion Council as they become available.
Under certain circumstances, DAF can provide finacial aid to deserving students. After completing the first year, students can apply for financial aid to be awarded.  This will need to be approved by the Board of Directors and the Quality Committee.
