Minimum Requirements:

  • Degree in Law with specialization in Environmental Law or equivalent NQF Level 7 qualification
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Extensive computer literacy (Word & Excel)
  • Accuracy and a good command of the English language (written and spoken)
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in a similar environment

Core Responsibilities:

  • Render specialist environmental legal services to ensure legal compliance obligations associated with the environmental aspects of the EMM’s operations are appropriately addressed
  • Participate in environmental law enforcement (administrative, criminal and civil) activities
  • Maintain strategic relationships on managerial, national and provincial level for purposes of expectation management, knowledge sharing and integration to ensure a common approach to and mechanism for dealing with governance issues, enabling regular dialogue that promotes effective problem resolution
  • Manage and implement the annual work plan (SDBIP) of the division, including protecting the interests of the Municipality with respect to environmentally sensitive land and commenting on land development applications ensuring that the set EMM, provincial and national targets are achieved
  • Contribute to effective financial management processes to ensure proper financial management
  • Develop a customer service orientated culture to ensure rewarding relationships and to allow others to provide exceptional customer service
  • Monitor environmental governance and risk management strategies to ensure effective implementation of Council resolutions with regard to risk
  • Provide strategic capability and leadership input into the divisional objectives to ensure that organisational demands are met in the short to medium term through managing the function to meet predetermined requirements
