German At NWU Receives Licence To Conduct Advanced Goethe Institute Exam

The subject group German at the North-West University (NWU) has recently obtained a licence to conduct intermediary and advanced exams of the Goethe Institute.

An official certificate from the Goethe Institute in Germany is issued if candidates complete the exam successfully.

Ms Gerda Wittmann from this subject group and national coordinator of the exam says that anyone who is interested in having their German language ability assessed can write the exam. The exam comprises four parts: reading, writing, listening and speaking.

The exam is for students and people who want to do preparatory courses for admission to a German university, or who want to live and work in Germany. The certificates (B1, B2 or C1) are a prerequisite for a variety of bursaries or admission to the German tertiary education landscape.

Gerda says that the C1 exam is the more advanced one that most German universities require if someone wants to study there in German.

The exams take place in October this year and the NWU has three qualified examiners who may conduct the exam worldwide. The cost is R1 320 for the B1 certificate, R1 430 for the B2 and R1 650 for the C1 certificate.
