Our client, a responsible eco-tourism company with offices in Cape Town, wishes to employ a dynamic sales assistant manager to join their team. The right candidate will be responsible for daily management and improvement of the Cape Town agent sales team in partnership with group sales manager.

Key responsibilities:

Management:

  • Support consultants with quoting, itinerary design and general questions
  • Responsible for timely quoting by consultants and maintain adequate file handling of sales team
  • Assigning new agents to consultants and ensuring excellent handling of agents including pairing the right agent with the right consultant
  • Proactively implement structural solutions for communications and cooperation between sales and safari operations, camp operations, accounts in order to minimise and manage issues
  • Manage daily sales administration including leave, emergency phone, work-from-home days and public holidays
  • Conduct and manage regular sales meeting with unit and group sales team on sales procedures, internal updates and changes
  • Contribute to the growth of team members through excellent HR management, experience and informal mentorship
  • Participation in the performance development and recruitment process
  • Assist in the growth of the sales department and maximise the sales efficiency of individuals through capacity building

Sales:

  • Handling of safari requests from agents with costing and accurate information
  • Proactive response to agents’ requests including suggestions on itinerary design, routeing, logistics, alternatives, upselling, offering additional information as needed
  • Follow booking procedures set out in the operating manuals when booking all properties, vehicles and activities that make up the safari
  • Maintain good relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to facilitate the smooth running of the sales process
  • Follow up with agents after a safari for any feedback

Qualification and experience:

  • Certificate/diploma/degree in travel/tourism
  • Minimum of two to three years’ experience in the tourism sector in a similar position
  • Knowledge of east African safari sales with product knowledge of both Kenya and Tanzania

Key competencies:

  • Excellent verbal and language in English
  • Computer literate in MS Office and good knowledge of sales systems
  • Proactive mindset, can-do attitude and ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to organise, motivate and encourage a team by utilising strong administration and organisational skills with great attention to detail
  • Sharp commercial awareness and ability to find commercial solutions to problems
  • Ability to take on board and disseminate constructive feedback from external and internal sources
  • Skilled in designing detailed and individualised quotes for itinerary requests
