Pink Loerie 2017

The Pink Loerie Mardi Gras & Arts Festival is in its 17th year and to celebrate, this year’s event will be bigger, better and a bit more outrageous than ever. This year’s festivities are taking place from 27 April – 1 May 2017 at various locations around the beautiful town of Knysna.

This popular celebration is a highlight on the international Gay Calendar and offers four days of non-stop entertainment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people as well as anybody looking for a fun and fabulous time.

Knysna is considered by some to be the most gay-friendly town, and is a popular international tourist destination. In previous years it has earned the coveted title of “South Africa’s Favourite Town of the year”.

During the Pink Loerie Mardi Gras the entire town of Knysna will be painted Pink again by thousands of party animals from all over South Africa, Africa and the rest of the world. This year revellers will enjoy four days of shows, entertainment, pageants and heaps of over-the-top flamboyant festivities. The pinnacle of Pink Loerie comes with the carnival on the final day where you will see fantastic floats and extravagant costumes sailing down the streets of Knysna.

Locals get in on the action with Knysna shop-owners competing to win the title of Best Window Display and businesses offering awesome deals for tourists over the festival period.

A notable accomplishment of Pink Loerie is the charity drive for local charities such as Loeriehof Old Age Home in Graham Street, Vermont Retirement Village, Knysna Animal Welfare and the Mayor’s Relief Fund. The Pink Loerie Mardi Gras & Arts Festival is therefore a time of celebration, but celebration with a purpose.
