Department  Description: 

School: School of Pathology The CMID is the culmination of a strong partnership between Wits University and the NHLS, and has produced a department of excellence in the fields of clinical microbiology, infectious disease, public health and environmental health which is a leader in both the research and diagnostic fields. The CMID has several SANAS accredited laboratories at Wits Medical School and Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital (CMJAH)

Job Description: The incumbent will be required to support the core research areas of the department and to add value and impact to our direction of training and research programmes. Furthermore the person will be expected to drive a disinfectant testing project in the department under the supervision of Senior Scientists. Key responsibilities include the following: • Support existing research programmes in the Department • Drive and assist in establishing future research programmes in the Department • Provide input in training / teaching curricula • Ensure compliance with principles of good laboratory practice • Assist in preparations for routine laboratory audits Requirements: • Bachelor’s Degree in Science or equivalent relevant to the discipline • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Outlook) • Basic Laboratory Administrative experience • Procurement and laboratory stock management experience • Experience in disinfectant testing, microbiology and molecular biology • Working knowledge of principles of good laboratory practice and • The ability to work in a team environment Preferences • BSc Honours / higher degree (preferably in field / closely related field of study). • Registration with HPCSA as Student/Medical Scientist will be advantageous • Working knowledge of Oracle • Experience in curriculum development / writing policies and protocols for a laboratory
