Department Description The Faculty of Health Sciences invites suitably qualified joint staff and employees interested in being part of a dynamic school, to apply for the post of Head of the School of Clinical Medicine. The School of Clinical Medicine is one of seven schools in the Faculty of Health Sciences, at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg South Africa. The School contributes significantly to the training of Health Science students at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
The position offers the potential for an energetic, committed (suitable) applicant to move the school into a new era of relevance, effectiveness and focus in its teaching and research enterprise.
Responsibilities:
The Head of School will be responsible for providing academic vision and leadership required to enable the the School to establish and maintain a position of excellence within the University, GDOH and in the wider educational context.
This will involve the oversight of all academic activities inclusive of teaching and research at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, student related and administrative matters within the School, including human resources, financial management and general administration. The Head of School must have strategic engagement with the Gauteng Department of Health (GDOH), build and maintain productive relationships with all relevant stakeholders in the Health Sector.
The Head of School will be responsible for the development and promotion of academic excellence within the cluster and school in order to maintain the position of excellence and diversity.
Qualifications and Experience:
Master’s degree or equivalent in appropriate discipline is required.5-10 years’ experience in university administration at a senior level is essential requirements. The applicant must have excellent leadership, interpersonal and managerial skills and should have attained sufficient academic and professional standing to command the respect of the members of the school.
The successful candidate will be appointed as Head for a fixed term of 5 years.
